Consumer JRE Design

Sun announced in JavaOne 2007 about consumer JRE. The expected size of consumer JRE would be 4MB to 7 MB. This small size would make JRE easily downloadable over network very fast and JRE start-up time would be very quick. If you wonder about design of consumer JRE, have a look at design of “Tamarin”. After all, sun is trying to replicate the success of adobe flash runtime. “Tamarin” is a runtime (written in C++) for compiled JavaScript byte-code and it is the core of flash runtime.
